In this course, we will be reading our way through the history of the English classics. From Beowulf (~700 CE), to The Canterbury Tales (14th/15th cent. CE), and William Shakespeare's Hamlet (~1599/1601). From Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1847), to Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979) to name a few.
We will take on a critical approach to uncovering why some of these classics are still relevant and what impact they have had on our modern understanding of literature.
Furthermore, we will be applying a context-sensitive approach to our discussions and literary analysis. Participation in the in-class discussions will be paramount to our progress.

Attendance of the first session is obligatory.
Our first in-person session of the summer term shall take place on April 27th !!!
Details about the first two sessions will be provided on OLAT after the registration period.
PLEASE NOTE: You are allowed to combine one regular survey course and one Children's Lit and YAF course.
For example:
British Children's Lit. (M 4.1) and US Survey (M 4.2) OR
US Children's Lit. (M 4.2) and British Survey (M 4.1)
Students cannot complete the module 4 exam only with the Children's Literature classes. You must register for one of the regular survey courses. |
