COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for all BEd/primary school students who have chosen English as their subject in the IFB programme. You are normally in your 5th or 6th semester when you attend this course.
In this course, we will focus on improving your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. We will also work on your vocabulary and revise grammatical features such as the tense system, active and passive voice, questions, negations, prepositions, adverbs, relative and if-clauses.
PARTICIPANTS:
BEd / primary school students who have chosen English as their IFB subject
PREREQUISITES:
Regular attendance and active participation in class as well as regular homework are required.
Furthermore, you will need
(1) to write one essay that must meet basic standards of composition, vocabulary, grammar and spelling;
(2) to complete a reading programme (Reading Journal), details of which will be given in the first session of this module.

Please bear in mind that the following materials will be of good use in all IFB/English courses and should therefore become an essential part of your library:
- one English grammar book,
- one monolingual English-English dictionary (e.g. Pons, The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Collins Dictionary, Cambridge Advanced Dictionary, etc.) as well as
- one bilingual German-English-German dictionary.
ASSESSMENT: 1 essay and 1 reading journal; 1 written exam at the end of semester
ECTS evaluation: 4 LP
Die Prüfung gilt als bestanden, wenn mindestens 60 % der Gesamtpunktzahl UND jeweils mindestens 50 % in den beiden Teilen der Prüfung erreicht wurden. Werden die 50 % in einem oder beiden Teilen nicht erreicht, gilt die Klausur als nicht bestanden.
