In this course we will cover a selection of American children's literature and young adult fiction. During this course we will familiarise ourselves with key concepts from narratology and literary studies and apply them to works of children's literature and young adult fiction.
Our goal is to develop an informed point of view on childhood as a construct and children's literature as a nuanced and varied field with great potential for the EFL classroom.
In our seminar we will be reading and discussing:
L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz (1900), Leigh Bardugo's The Language of Thorns (2017), Neal Schusterman's Scythe (2016), Ernest Cline's Ready Player One (2011) among others.
The full reading-list will be provided in our first session.
Attendance of the first session is obligatory.
Our first in-person session of the summer term shall take place on April 27th !!! Details about the first two sessions will be provided on OLAT after the registration period.
