In this course, we will be reading our way through the history of the English classics. From Beowulf (~700 CE), to The Canterbury Tales (14th/15th cent. CE), and William Shakespeare's Henry V (1599). From Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1847), to Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel Casino Royale (1953) to name a few.
We will take on a critical approach to uncovering why some of these classics are still relevant and what impact they have had on our modern understanding of literature.
Furthermore, we will be applying a context-sensitive approach to our discussions and literary analysis. Participation in the in-class discussions will be paramount to our progress.
The full reading list will be provided in the first session.
Attendance of the first session is obligatory.
