In the Modul "Biogeochemical Interfaces" (ACP2), the students will learn about:

• The central role of interfaces for environmental processes such as sorption and transport of environmental contaminants, bioavailability and toxicity
• The intense interactions between physics, chemistry and biology
• The analysis of interfacial processes and are competent for independent interdisciplinary process-oriented experiments

 After seeing some basic notions in the first weeks of the semester, each seminar will have a specific thematic round about biogeochemical interfaces. Several experts are invited to contribute and present their work over the course of the semester. The students are asked each week to read one scientific paper that they present during the seminar and discuss critically with the class. 

The lab course has an overhead experiment and the students will use several techniques to investigate the results of this experiment. The methods comprise measurement of the sample wettability, measurement of water mobility (1H-NMR relaxometry), surface tension of soil solution, stability of soil aggregates, wettability  ...

The seminar takes place once a week and presence is required. From mid of November, the lab course takes place for 4 hours once a week, usually on Wednesday afternoon. However, the day and duration may change depending on the disponibility of the students and the type of experiment. 

• The students will have some home work to present each week at the end of the seminar. The home work usually consists in reading and present/answer questions about a scientific paper within the same thematic at the week's seminar. 
• The students will send the raw data and analyzed results to the scientist responsible after each experiment. At the end of the seminar, the students will wrap all data together in a presentation and discuss their results, comparing them with the literature.
