This course examines how Native American and Botswana ‘San’ literatures discuss issues of land dispossession, displacement, sovereignty and the meaning of autonomy. These aspects are explored through a variety of literary forms such as; drama, novel, folklore and poetry from the 18th century to the present. It also seeks to uncover the history and present realities of its people. Consequently, students will be prompted to investigate the disparities between the self and the democratic voice in creating a palatable environment for all. Most significantly, the course prompts learners to be conscious of their own social responsibility towards the trajectory of the world. |
