In this course, we will explore a range of approaches in literary theory, ranging from structuralism to reader-response theory, deconstruction, New Historicism and postcolonial theory. We will apply and discuss these theoretical and methodological approaches using selected literary texts - a detailed syllabus will be made available at the beginning of the term.
By the end of this course, students will be familiar with major developments in 20th and 21st century literary theory and be able to apply critical methods in their readings of literary texts.
